Quincy Public Schools

On October 22, 2023, the City of Quincy held a dedication ceremony for the new Dr. Rick DeCristofaro Learning Center, a state-of-the-art special education school.

The ceremony was attended by distinguished guests, including Representative Stephen Lynch, Massachusetts House Speaker Ronald Mariano, Quincy Commissioner of Public Buildings Paul Hines, Quincy Mayor Tom Koch, Quincy City Councilors, and members of the Quincy School Committee.

In addition to remarks offered by our guests, Quincy Public Schools Superintendent Kevin Mulvey and Assistant Superintendent Erin Perkins spoke at the event, and Central Middle School Principal Mr. Rick DeCristofaro, Jr. introduced the guest of honor, his father.

The Dr. Rick DeCristofaro Learning Center is a 57,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility with 30 classrooms, each with its own single-occupancy bathroom. The building also has a gymnasium, full kitchen, cafeteria, therapy rooms, and several large multipurpose spaces. The center will host students with specials needs and is themed and color-coded by wing so that students may easily identify their location in the building.

The building is named after Dr. Richard DeCristofaro, the former superintendent of Quincy Public Schools and current president of Quincy College. The dedication ceremony was followed by an open house, which gave parents, caregivers, and community members the opportunity to tour the new building. Quincy Access Television (QATV) recorded the ceremony and open house, and the footage will be available to view on qatv.org this week.
