Quincy School Committee Facilities, Transportation & Security Subcommittee Meeting ~ Wednesday, February 26, 2020

A meeting of the Facilities, Transportation & Security Subcommittee was held on Wednesday, February 26 at 6:45 pm in the Coddington Building. Present were Mayor Thomas Koch, Mr. Anthony Andronico, Mr. Paul Bregoli, Mrs. Kathryn Hubley, Mrs. Emily Lebo, and Mr. Frank Santoro, Subcommittee Chair. Also present were Superintendent Richard DeCristofaro, Deputy Superintendent Kevin Mulvey, Ms. Maura Papile, Ms. Erin Perkins, Ms. Madeline Roy, Mr. Keith Segalla; and Ms. Laura Owens, Clerk.

Mr. Santoro called the Facilities, Transportation & Security Subcommittee meeting to order and introduced the compilation of Facilities needs from the School Improvement Plan, items from the Capital Improvement Plan, and projects on the Public Buildings report submitted to City Council on February 24. Mr. Santoro noted that that he has had the opportunity to accompany Dr. DeCristofaro on recent visits to some of the middle and high schools to see in person the items on the School Improvement Plan Facilities pages.

Mr. Santoro thanked Ms. Owens for compiling the facilities project list and Mayor Koch for funding and support for the many projects recently completed and currently underway.

Mr. Santoro said that the facilities project list will be shared with Public Buildings Commissioner Paul Hines to add additional information on work planned to be completed by the end of the summer. Once School Committee has this information, they can review and prioritize.

Mrs. Lebo requested annotation to the list for any security or safety issues.

Mrs. Hubley asked for follow up with Principal Steve Sylvia, as Squantum did not have any requested items that might need to be addressed in the short term.

Ms. Owens noted that the list can be sorted by type of project and will create a Google sheets document that School Committee can review online.

Mr. Bregoli asked Mayor Koch if he is involved in prioritizing projects, Mayor Koch said he is involved for big picture items. Mr. Bregoli thanked the Mayor, the Public Buildings staff is very responsive to issues as they arise in the schools.

Mr. Andronico made a motion to adjourn the Facilities, Transportation & Security Subcommittee meeting at 6:55 pm. Mr. Santoro seconded the motion and on a voice vote, the ayes have it.
