“A Matter of Heart” Initiative

Quincy Public Schools' "A Matter of Heart" Initiative

A Brewster instructor helps a student practicing CPR on a manikin.Quincy Public Schools is proud to partner with Brewster Ambulance annually to provide all QPS 8th graders with the opportunity to learn lifesaving skills through the "A Matter of Heart" initiative. This program, which takes place in school for a week in late January/early February, teaches students how to perform CPR, help someone who is choking, and use an AED. The program culminates in a free CPR/AED certification class offered to 8th-grade students in February.

Through "A Matter of Heart," Quincy Public Schools aims to empower students with the knowledge and skills to respond effectively in emergencies and potentially save lives. This initiative is just one example of the district's commitment to providing students with a well-rounded education that prepares them to be responsible and engaged citizens.

We thank Brewster Ambulance for their ongoing partnership on this initiative and we also extend our thanks to the QPS Health Services team for spearheading this effort every year. Please contact Andrea Huwar, QPS Coordinator of Health Services, at 617-984-8899 with questions about this program.
