School Nutrition Department Information

School Nutrition Department Information:

As the school year quickly approaches, our nutrition team would like to inform you on DESE and USDA policies regarding this year's school lunch and breakfast program. Due to Covid-19, all students for the year of 2021-2022 will eat for free. We will NO longer offer a grab and go remote feeding option at any of our schools, as this is not allowed, per regulations.  All children will have access to free breakfast & lunch in our cafeterias during the school day.

We continue to strongly encourage students and/or parents to complete the free/reduced lunch application each year to receive other benefits from the state, including P-EBT benefits.

Our CEP (Community Eligibility Provisions) schools will continue to offer free breakfast and lunches to students enrolled there, as students are automatically considered free if attending one of the 6 CEP schools.  As a result, these students do not need to complete an application. If you are interested in understanding CEP qualifications, more information can be found here: https://www.fns.usda.gov/cn/community-eligibility-provision

Our CEP classified schools include:

Clifford Marshall

Parker Elementary

Snug Harbor

Lincoln Hancock

South~West

Point Webster

Self-service stations and salad bars are still being put on hold due to health and safety concerns brought on by the pandemic but we are excited to bring them back for all to enjoy as soon as it is safe to do so.

Ensuring QPS children are getting the proper nutrition they need during these difficult and unprecedented times is our main priority. School lunch is critical to overall student health and well-being. It ensures that students have the nutrition they need throughout the long school day to learn to their greatest capacity. Research shows that consuming breakfast and lunch in school decreases food insecurity and poor health outcomes.

We look forward to serving all students in the fall. Please contact the school nutrition office with further questions - (617) 984-8768.
