QPS COVID-19 Advisory, March 12

March 12, 2020

Dear Quincy Public Schools Staff, Students, and Parents,

In the effort to limit the spread of the COVID-19 virus in our community, this morning the decision was made to limit the use of our school facilities to educational and education-related activities.  In addition, we are planning to limit our community exposure by keeping students in the school environment.  As we have consistently done, these decisions were made in consultation with Mayor Thomas Koch, the Quincy School Committee, the City of Quincy’s Health Commissioner Ruth Jones, and the Superintendent’s Leadership and Principal Teams.

Effective today, March 12, 2020, all field trips and in-school community events are cancelled through April 1, as follows

· School events, including STEM Fairs, drama performances, High School Course Selection night, Spring Athletics Information meetings, and Student Community Service.

· Any scheduled use of a school building by an outside group, for example, the SAT test scheduled for  Saturday, March 14.

· Community events and parent meetings, such as the Student Opportunity Act Public Meeting on March 17 and the English Learner Parent Advisory Committee meeting scheduled for March 12.

· PTO meetings and PTO-sponsored events

At this time, there is no change to after school care at our elementary school sites and extracurricular programs and activities including extended education programs, athletics, rehearsals, and clubs for elementary, middle, and high school students.   The Quincy School Committee will continue to meet as previously scheduled, please see the schedule at https://quincypublicschools.com/school_committee/schoolcommittee_news/school_committee_meetings___winter_2020

We will continue to update Quincy Public Schools staff, students and families as additional information becomes available.  Thank you for your patience as we continue to evaluate and update our responses.

Sincerely,

Richard DeCristofaro, Ed.D

Superintendent of Schools
