January 12 Letter from Superintendent Mulvey

January 12 Letter from Superintendent Mulvey/High School Hockey
Posted on 01/12/2021

Dear Quincy and North Quincy High School Hockey Team Members and Parents,

Earlier today, I met with the High School Principals Rob Shaw and Larry Taglieri and Athletic Directors J.J. Niamkey and Kevin Mahoney to finalize the plans for returning the Varsity Hockey program to actively practicing and playing games.  We have met multiple times in the last few days to discuss additional COVID-19 safeguards for the Hockey program.  The Athletic Directors have ordered a more secure style of mask for Hockey team members to wear and will be working with the Quincy Youth Arena staff to ensure that appropriate space for distancing is available in the bench area.  The Athletic Directors and the coaching staff will meet with the Varsity teams to review expectations and protocols moving forward.

As you may know, the Quincy Youth Arena is currently closed for deep cleaning due to COVID-19 positive exposure and is currently scheduled to re-open on Thursday, January 14.   Quincy and North Quincy High School Varsity Hockey practices can resume when the QYA re-opens and specific scheduling information will be communicated by the coaches and Athletic Directors.

As always, please continue to monitor for COVID-19 symptoms, remain out of school and athletics activities if symptoms develop, and consult with your family’s health care provider.

Kevin W. Mulvey, J.D.

Superintendent of Schools
