Online Learning with MakeCode

With many schools closed due to COVID-19, we know that parents and educators are looking for online learning resources for students. We’ve compiled a list of helpful resources that students can access to continue their computing education outside the classroom.

Live Video Streaming

Members of the Microsoft MakeCode team and community will be recording live video streams daily to walk students through different MakeCode tutorials and projects. All videos will be live streamed on Mixer and available for viewing later in the MakeCode YouTube Channel.

Mark Rober is an American YouTuber, engineer and inventor. He is known for his YouTube videos on popular science, do-it-yourself gadgets and creative ideas. Several of his videos have gone viral, including a digital Halloween costume, and a trap for package thieves that releases a fountain of ultra-fine glitter. Prior to YouTube, Rober was an engineer with NASA where he spent seven years working on the Curiosity rover at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. He later worked for four years at Apple Inc. as a product designer in their Special Projects Group, where he authored patents involving virtual reality in self-driving cars.

Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 4pm (he advertises it as 1pm Pacific time)

We’ve curated a selection of free resources from the extensive PBS Learning Media library and other WGBH Education initiatives, with a focus on self-directed activities.

Resources span grade levels from PreK, K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12, cover a wide range of commonly-taught and interesting subjects, and are presented with time estimates to help caregivers select activities.
