About Us
North Quincy High School opened first
as North Junior High School in 1926 and added one high school grade a year
in the early 30's, graduating its first high school class in 1934. In 1959,
the seventh and eighth grade students moved to the newly-opened Atlantic
Middle School, leaving grades nine through twelve at North Quincy High
School. Renovations and an addition were made to the school building
during 1978-1980.
The school colors are red and black and the students are spiritedly known as the "Red Raiders."
Message from the Principal
Welcome to the North Quincy High School web site. I am honored to be associated with such an outstanding school community, offering quality education to an eager and enthusiastic student body. The staff of North Quincy High is caring and supportive, and value each of our students as individuals with unique physical, social, emotional, and intellectual abilities. With faculty guidance our graduates become informed, responsible, and productive citizens. Since most of our students further their education, our curriculum is geared to be challenging and stimulating. We will continue to offer the more traditional scheduling format which provides for more time in each academic class, thus allowing for more concentrated instruction in the core areas of learning. This approach to education maximizes achievement each year and contributes to several students being named National Merit Scholars, and receiving early acceptances to prestigious colleges throughout the country.
The Renaissance Program offers our students the opportunity to expand their artistic abilities in fields of art, music, dance, and theater. Students from these programs participate in community service activities, as well as in several school productions. Our students also excel athletically, and are strongly encouraged to be part of the ongoing tradition of pride and excellence that exists here at North. With a State Championship Volleyball Team, and several other tournament bound teams, our athletes perform at a highly competitive level. They value teamwork and sportsmanship as a way of expanding their horizons.
We are committed to several business partnerships as well, which further help to expand our far reaching network of community involvement with social service projects such as "Adopt A Needy Family for the Holidays." Our students come to value helping those less fortunate than themselves.
North Quincy High School students have the unique opportunity to achieve in a warm and caring atmosphere. The tradition of excellence at the high school is one that they can be proud of. Click here to view/print a copy of the 2008-2009 NQHS School Improvement Plan.

about the great things our partners are doing... This year NQHS celebrates 19 years of a unique partnership between North
Quincy, State Street Corporation and Boston Financial Data Services. The
Partnership provides monetary, technical and most importantly, human resource
support. It is a Partnership that serves as a model for the city. The Great Ideas Program: This grant program for teachers funds
innovative ideas that improve student learning in the classroom Literature Alive: Authors and poets are invited to speak to the 10th
grade classes, and students are exposed to literature, the arts and drama
productions The Mediation Program: This initiative helps students learn to resolve
conflicts in a positive manner. The Mentoring Program: Employees from State Street Corporation, Boston
Financial Data Services and Blue Cross and Blue Shield mentor at-risk students
and provide them with a window to the world of work and to opportunities beyond
high school. The People’s Choice Awards: The art and photos of talented students
are exhibited at State Street and BFDS. Employees vote on their favorite works
of art and students are awarded monetary prizes for their work. Government in Action: Students have the
opportunity to visit important historic sites across the county including
Washington DC, the United Nations in New York and, this year, Dayton Ohio, where
students got a chance to understand the history of aviation. French Exchange Program: Every two years students from the Quincy Public Schools
participate in a French exchange program. During their stay, French students and two
of their teachers from the Lycée Sainte-Marie in Bourges attend classes at NQHS, visit QHS and
all of our middle schools. They visit notable locations in Quincy, including
the Church of the Presidents and the Adams Mansion, as well as historic and
cultural sites in Boston, Cambridge, Plymouth and Salem. We continue this exchange in April, when NQHS students
visit Bourges, France, attend the Lycée Sainte-Marie and stay with host
families. These initiatives directly impact teaching and learning in the classroom. The Quincy Public School system has maintained a partnership with Quincy
Medical Center for the past 12 years. Without this partnership our Health Care
program could not exist, as clinical competencies are an integral component of
the program. Students in their senior year who have received certification as
Nursing Assistants participate in placement at QMC. This placement involves
providing direct physical care to patients of varied illnesses. This includes
pre- and post-op patients, medical patients hospitalized with complications from
diabetes, cardiac diseases, strokes, and infections. Clinical skills are more challenging. Our students are working with patients
with intravenous, patients needing oxygen support, gastrostomy feedings, cast
care, wound care etc. Many will actually do an education presentation to the
staff at the end of their rotations. Additionally, the QMC has been outstanding in providing professional job
shadowing experiences in many areas of the hospital. These include emergency
room, radiology, ultra sound, cardiac rehabilitation, pharmacology, and
Intensive Care Units. Students also have the opportunity to attend in-service
education seminars. In 2003 a partnership with MBLTC and the Quincy Public School System was
established. It was important for the NQHS student to have closer access to a
clinical setting. Marina Bay provides the students of Health Career Major
(Patient Care 1), hands-on skills and caring for the senior population in long
term care. The students are also able to spend time shadowing physical therapy,
and recreational therapists. This clinical time is required by the MDPH. The staff is very supportive and the residents look forward to the arrival of
the North Quincy High School students. .The students have clinical competencies
which must be fulfilled to take the certified nursing exam. This includes bath,
showers, weights, feeding, and documentation. Several of the students have
continued to work at MBTC during the senior year and after graduation. MBLTC
also offers a scholarship to CNAs who continue onto nursing school. We
currently have a NQHS graduate who is applying for this scholarship. Boston Scientific provides guest lectures for
science classes and judges and awards for the annual science fair.
Through field trips, students have the opportunity to view the
company's everyday operations. Students interested in the
fields of science, medicine and health care may arrange a job
shadowing experience. Boston Scientific provides hardware for
the staff to use in preparing lesson plans using technology. Keohane's provides speakers at workshops for grief and loss.
Students can job shadow or obtain part-time work. Atria Marina Place is an assisted living facility. Students
have many employment and training opportunities at Marina Place.
They can get jobs, career training, clinical experience and
work-study experience. Eastern Nazarene offers the use if their facilities including the
library and conference center. They host workshops for both
QPS staff and students in a variety of topics including professional
learning and career exploration.Find Us
