Do you serve breakfast?

Breakfast is available every morning immediately before school starts at all schools in Quincy. Breakfast consists of a selection of cereals, muffins, bagels, peanut butter, cream cheese, fresh fruit, fruit juice and milk.

What does breakfast cost?

The cost for breakfast is 60 cents at elementary schools. Students who are eligible for Free or Reduced price lunches are automatically eligible for free or reduced price breakfast. The cost for a reduced price breakfast is 25 cents. Click here more information on eligibility requirements for free and reduced lunch.

Are after school programs available? Who do I talk to?

Quincy After School Day Care houses an after school program at Montclair School. The main number to call and register a child for this program is 773-3299 or info.qascc@verizon.net. The Quincy Recreation Department also uses our gymnasium as a recreation site for two days per week for students in grade three - five. This program often begins in the Fall and concludes in the Spring.

Is my child eligible to ride a bus to school?

Bus transportation is provided to the Kindergarten through Grade 5 students who live over 3/4 of a mile from the school. Kindergarten students are to be met at the designated bus stops by a parent or guardian/care provider.  Special Needs Transportation is provided for those students who are in the special education programs. The student's Individual Educational Plan will specify whether the student will be receiving special transportation from the school system. For further information contact Lois Constantino, Transportation Department, at 984-8964

How early can my child arrive at school?

Students should not arrive to school more than ten minutes before the start of school. This is for the security and supervision of our students. Students arriving early for breakfast should enter the cafeteria through the gym doors on Holbrook Road.

How do I dismiss my child from school?

When children are to be dismissed early, a note should be delivered that morning to the class teacher. The office will be notified by the classroom teacher. Parents or guardians will need to come to the office to sign the student out of school. Proper ID may be requested.

Safety notes:

Please remind your child to use the crosswalks when crossing the street.

Please observe the NO PARKING zones around the school.

Parents, please check the time your child leaves for school.  Some of our students are arriving too early.  Students should not arrive at school before 8:00 a.m.

Visitors to Montclair are reminded that they are required to sign in at the main office and pick up a visitor's badge!

About Us

Welcome to Montclair School!

The Montclair School is located on 8 Belmont Street in North Quincy.  The school was built in 1912 with additions in the 1930's and in 1954.    The original schoolhouse was built in response to the population growth in the northwest section of the City of Quincy.   The Montclair neighborhood is bordered by the Neponset River to the north, Beale Street to the south, Newport Avenue to the west and the Town of Milton to the east.  It was once part of Dorchester and became part of the Town of Quincy in 1792.  The school takes its name from the section of the city in which it is located.  The Montclair School opened its doors to serve the educational needs of the community in September 1912.   The Montclair School has a student population of about 340 students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade.  We are proud of its rich history and continue to be a school of excellence that strives to meet the needs of today's children.

Message from the Principal of Montclair

Our guiding principle is as follows:

The Montclair School's mission is to provide our students with the best quality education possible.

Our mission at the Montclair school is to provide a safe and nurturing learning environment for children to achieve their individual maximum potential.  Our desire is to develop students who persevere in their studies, take responsibility for their choices, and are honest in their character.  We seek to equip the students with the necessary skills to thrive as productive workers and committed citizens, and to meet the challenge of change in a global community.  We strive to help children discover and explore their gifts and talents, and to value and respect each other's uniqueness.  In order to accomplish our mission, staff, parents and students must work in a collaboration of effort and trust with open communication.  Our success will be measured by our students who exemplify a lifelong love of learning. The Montclair School Community is truly a great place to grow.

It is with great pride and enthusiasm that I have the opportunity to fulfill the role as educational leader at Montclair School.  I look forward to a wonderful school year with an extremely dedicated staff, devoted parents, and committed community members.
