Programs

Middle School is an important time in the educational life of children.  Students are anxious to explore new interests, while building and improving their current skills. At Atlantic, we recognize that our students and their families have many different needs.  That is why we offer a wide variety of programs that vary according to funding and identified needs of our students.  Browse at our current offerings listed below. Check out the academic and enrichment programs offered for all middle school students.

"YOUNG WRITERS"- LITERARY MAGAZINE

Atlantic Middle School is proud of its nationally recognized Literary Magazine, "Young Writers", which received national recognition from the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE). We are very proud to have received the ranking of "Highest Award", the NCTE's best rating.

PEER MEDIATION

A program designed to help students learn to deal with conflict in a more effective manner through a resolution process that includes communication, problem solving, critical thinking, and decision making. A Violence Prevention Program, designed to help adolescents deal with anger in productive, nonviolent ways, is part of our school's curriculum.

D.A.R.E. PROGRAM

D.A.R.E. is a cooperative relationship between Quincy Public Schools and the Quincy Police department. Over the years the D.A.R.E. effort has been very effective in teaching students in grades 6 and 7 about the dangers of drugs and in teaching decision making skills.

THEATER ARTS PROGRAM

Our Theater Arts Program involves Chorus, Drama, Dance and Band.

Chorus - Atlantic's Chorus meets before school for grades 7 and 8 and culminates in performances for students and parents.

Drama - Our Drama program is open to all students. Rehearsals are held after school and techniques of acting and singing are introduced.

Dance - Atlantic's Dance Ensemble is open to all students. Students are introduced to jazz, modern, lyrical, tap, hip hop and various cultural dances from different parts of the world. Their work culminates in an evening performance for parents.

Band- Atlantic's Band is open to all students. Performances are held at school and off site.

CAMP BURGESS

Camp Burgess is an outdoor educational facility that offers many activities that teach students about the environment and the importance of teamwork, as well as increasing their self-confidence. This activity is a four day winter outward bound experience on Cape Cod, for our sixth grade class.

YMCA PARTNERSHIP

Atlantic's partnership with the YMCA involves after school and Saturday programs such as Mountain Movers and skiing.

HOMEWORK CENTER

Students who need assistance with their school work have a professionally staffed center made available to them after school.

ATLANTIC CLIPPER

"The Atlantic Clipper" is the annual yearbook printed at the conclusion of each school year.
