News from QHS Guidance: October 2018

ALL GRADES:

 

QPS College Fair

  • The QPS College Fair will be held at Quincy High School on Thursday, October 11th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Nearly 100 colleges will be present! All are welcome to attend (seniors and juniors are strongly encouraged).

 

SENIORS:

 

QPS Financial Aid Night

  • QPS Financial Aid Night will be held at North Quincy High School on Thursday, October 25thfrom 7:00-8:30 p.m. All seniors and their families are welcome to attend.

 

Senior Workshops/Meetings

  • Counselors visited seniors in their English classes during the first week in October to present on post-secondary planning. Counselors will also start to meet with seniors on an individual basis to further discuss their plans/options.
  • Students who will be applying to college as “Early Action” candidates should notify their counselor ASAP and make an appointment. Students must meet with their counselor prior to applying to ensure all materials are sent by the appropriate deadlines. Transcript Release Formsare due to your counselor at least one week before your deadline.

 

College Visits

  • Did you know that college representatives from a variety of different colleges come to QHS to meet with seniors/juniors and share information about their school/programs? If interested, a list of colleges can be found on Naviance. Students must register (on Naviance) at least 24 hours before the visit in order to attend. Individual passes can be found in Guidance during the day of the meeting for students to pick-up.

 

AP Exams

  • For any senior enrolled in AP courses, payment in full is due by November 9, 2018.  Exam fees are non-refundable. Please be aware, the College Board charges the standard fee of $94 per exam. Students eligible for free/reduced lunch are eligible for a fee reduction and the resulting cost is $53 per exam.

 

Dual Enrollment

  • Registration forms for dual enrollment are now available. Please see Mr. Reardon in Guidance for information.

 

Preparing for Scholarship Information

  • Although scholarships do not typically start coming in until the end of Fall, seniors should make sure that their e-mail is updated in their Naviance account (click on “About Me” tab and then click “Profile”) and that they have signed up for the Remind App (text @quincy2019 to 81010 to register). As scholarships are posted, we e-mail and text information on a regular basis. All scholarships will be listed electronically on Naviance as they are posted.

 

Save the Date!

  • New England Service Academy Night will be Wednesday, November 7th at the Danversport Yacht Club on 161 Elliott Street in Danvers. Registration will begin at 6:30p.m.

 

Upcoming Standardized Testing Dates

  • SAT Exam-November 2, 2018. Students must register by October 5th (to avoid late fee)
  • SAT Exam-December 1, 2018. Students must register by November 2nd (to avoid late fee)
  • ACT Exam-December 8, 2018. Students must register by November 2nd (to avoid late fee)

 

JUNIORS:

 

PSAT

  • The PSAT (Practice SAT Exam) will be held on Saturday, October 13th @ 7:30 a.m. at QHS. Registration for juniors and sophomores has already started. Cost is $27 (cash only please).
