Frequently Asked Questions

What are the school hours?

The school day at Point Webster Middle School begins at 8:15 and ends at 2:30. Since school personnel are not available to supervise, students may not arrive at the building until breakfast starts at 7:45 am.

What should I do if my child is absent?

If your child is going to be absent from school for any reason, please call the school in the morning to report it. If we do not receive a call from you, the attendance clerk will try to call a parent/guardian at home or the workplace. If no contact is made, your child may be considered truant.

What if my child needs to be dismissed?

If you know ahead of time that your child is to be dismissed from school, please send in a note with your child indicating the time and reason.

What if my child is going to be late?

If your child is going to be late to school, a parental note is required explaining the tardiness. It is also expected that you indicate the time you expect your child to arrive at school. If a student enters school between 8:15 – 9:30 a.m. without a note he/she will be admitted to school, and a note must be sent to school the next day. Students whose tardiness is unexcused may be kept after school. Students who are repeatedly tardy may have a suspension hearing with a parent/guardian.

What if my child becomes ill at school?

Students, who are ill at home before school, should not be sent to school. If a child becomes ill at school and it is necessary for him/her to be dismissed, the parent/guardian must make arrangements for him/her to be picked up. The School System does not permit students who are ill to walk home or take public transportation unless accompanied by an adult.

What is the homework policy?

Homework assignments differ, depending upon the course, as well as the student’s ability, potential and need. Students are expected to complete regular assignments carefully in order to reinforce and enrich classroom learning experiences. Homework is usually discussed in class, collected, and graded within a reasonable period of time. A record is kept of homework grades and assignments completed. Students have reasonable notice of long term assignments; therefore, time must be planned for these assignments. Please refer to the Quincy Public School’s Guide to Homework for additional details.

Why do I need to send in contact information?

It is extremely important that the school has your home and work phone numbers on file, as well as a relative’s or neighbor’s, in case of an emergency. These telephone numbers will be kept strictly confidential upon request. Please update these phone numbers as necessary.

When are the early release days?
