Health Education 2008-2009 Improvement Plan.
The Quincy Public Schools were awarded federal grant monies through the Safe and Drug Free Schools Communities program in September 2007. The purpose of these funds will be to prevent violence in and around schools, prevent illegal use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs; involve parents and communities; and are coordinated with related federal, state, school, and community efforts and resources to foster a safe and drug-free learning environment that supports student achievement. Funding of this grant will address the following priorities: (1) a safe and drug-free environment that supports academic achievement; (2) activities/programs designed to prevent and reduce violence, and the use, possession and distribution of illegal drugs; and (3) timely, meaningful consultation with representatives of state and local government, schools to be served (including private schools), teachers, other staff, parents, with demonstrated expertise in drug and violence prevention. Quincy Public Schools programs will include Middle School and High School Peer Education Programs, Middle School After School Violence Prevention Programs, Elementary School Violence Prevention Nights, and the partial funding of a middle school violence prevention specialist.
