BeachThanks to all our QPS staff, students, and families for a successful school year!  Have a wonderful summer with family and friends!!

Elementary and middle school offices will close for the summer at 2:00 on Friday, July 1 and will re-open on Monday, August 29.

High School offices are open all summer for registration between 8:00 am and 2:00 pm, with the exception of Monday, July 4.

The first day of classes for Grades 1-9 is Wednesday, September 7.  Grades 10-12 resume on Thursday, September 8.  Kindergarten Orientation is Friday, September 9 and the first day of classes for Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten is Monday, September 12.

Kindergarten Registration for 2016-2017

Quincy Public Schools’ Kindergarten Registration for the 2016–2017 school year is now open at all elementary school locations.  Please note that elementary school offices will close for the summer on Friday, July 1.  Children who will be 5 years of age on or before August 31, 2016 are eligible to attend Kindergarten in 2016-2017 and should be registered at their home school.   

Please call your home school to make an appointment for registration.  If you are not sure which school is your home school, click here for the street directory  Please note that parents of students seeking open enrollment must register the student at their home school.    

If your child presently attends the Pre-Kindergarten programs at either the Snug Harbor School or the Amelio Della Chiesa Early Childhood Center, it is not necessary to register your child for Kindergarten.

The following documents must be produced in order for a student to be registered:

a.    Child’s birth certificate (with a raised seal)

b.   Proof that the child resides in the home school district  (any two: tax bill, utility bill, mortgage statement, 1099 or w-4 form)

c.   Photo I.D.  of the adult seeking to enroll the student

d.    Copy of a recent (within one year) physical examination by a physician

e.     Written records of immunizations

Open Enrollment Advisory ~ June 15, 2016

Quincy Public Schools is tracking enrollment projections, class sizes, and building capacities for the 2016-2017 school year.  QPS will issue periodic updates using a color code to indicate each school’s Open Enrollment status.

Red = Open Enrollment will be limited to siblings of students already enrolled for 2016-2017 in all grades

Yellow = Open Enrollment will be limited to siblings of students already enrolled for 2016-2017  in certain grades

Green =  Open Enrollment will not be limited to siblings

For elementary schools, Beechwood Knoll, Bernazzani, Lincoln Hancock, Clifford Marshall, Merrymount, Montclair, and Squantum Elementary Schools will be limited to accepting sibling Open Enrollment requests at most grades.   Parents who have requested non-sibling Open Enrollment to one of these schools should plan on having their students attend their home school.  Parents will be notified of Open Enrollment decisions by the end of June.

Commencement ceremonies for Quincy High School and North Quincy High School will be held at Veterans Memorial Stadium at 6:00 pm as scheduled below.  Ceremonies will be held on the date scheduled (no rain date).  In case of rain, the commencement ceremony will be held in the high school gymnasium.

Flag Day ParadeThe 1.2 mile parade steps-off at 7 p.m. at the intersection of Coddington and Hancock Streets and proceeds north on Hancock Street to Merrymount Parkway.

The celebration portion of the evening is held at Pageant Field following the parade and consists of a flag raising of an impressive 30′ x 60′ version of Old Glory, a fly-over, a patriotic medley, and presentation of awards.  The evening is capped off by a dazzling 30-minute fireworks display over Black’s Creek.

Youth Employment Permits

Employment permits (“working papers”) for 14-to-17 year-old students are issued through the North Quincy and Quincy High School main offices for both Quincy Public Schools students and Quincy residents who attend private schools.   High School Principals Shaw and Taglieri have been designated by Superintendent DeCristofaro to issue these permits.

To begin the application process, click here to download the form.   Bring the completed form and a student id, recent report card, or birth certificate to either high school main office between the hours of 8:00 am and 2:00 pm for review and processing.   The high school offices are open Monday through Friday during July and August, with the exception of Monday, July 4.

Employment permits will be issued within 48 hours of receipt of completed form and required documentation.

QPS Food Services Meal Payment Options

Quincy Public Schools has a computer-based Point of Sale System (POS) to installed in all school cafeterias and each student has an assigned identification (PIN) number to access their account.

Parents/guardians are encouraged to pre-pay money into their student(s) accounts in order to help move students quickly through the lunch line, giving them more time to enjoy their meal.  Prepayment can be made in any amount before school or at the breakfast/lunch period in the form of cash or checks.  Checks should be made payable to the QPS Food Service Department and include the student’s full name and classroom on the face of the check or envelope containing cash.
