April 8 School Committee Meeting Update

At the April 8 School Committee Meeting, Montclair Elementary School Grade 5 students Kaylee and Kiera Sleiman were recognized for competing in the Colgate Women’s Games, a national track and field competition.  Kaylee placed sixth in the high-jump and Kiera placed fourth in the 55-meter hurdles.  Quincy High School students Erin McMillen (Grade 12) and Marcus Johnson (Grade 10) were recognized for being members of the Massachusetts Music Educators 2015 All-State Chorus.

Dr. DeCristofaro opened the Superintendent’s Report with the Inspire Quincy video, highlighting recent Quincy Public Schools events.  Click here to watch the video.

Dr. DeCristofaro announced upcoming Quincy School~Community Partnership events, including the Grade 5 Leadership Summit (April 16) and the Community Service Learning Breakfast (May 26).  Upcoming Parent Academy evenings will focus on Internet Safety for Middle & High School students and families (Quincy High School, April 30 @ 6:30 pm) and the New Elementary School Report Card (Central Middle School, May 18 @ 6:30 pm).

Under New Business, Dr. DeCristofaro presented on the planning and implementation of the Beyond the Bell program.  Click here for the full presentation.

Elementary Literacy Specialists Janet Baglione (Wollaston), Elizabeth Bates (Parker), and Colleen Dufresne (Lincoln Hancock) presented on the Literacy Program.  Click here for the full presentation.

Mr. Bregoli referred several items to the Policy Subcommittee:

  • Physical Restraint Policy (Review & Update)
  • Facilities Dedication: Atlantic Middle School Fields
  • 2016-2017 School Year Calendar
  • Weather Cancellation Schoolwork (joint with Teaching & Learning)

School Committee accepted gifts of $10,000 and a Basketball Shot Training Machine valued at $5,750.00 to Quincy High School from George G. Burke, Esquire.

School Committee approved the overnight travel of Broad Meadows Middle School Grade 8 students to Camp Wing and the out of state travel of Atherton Hough and Bernazzani Elementary School Grade 5 students to Canobie Lake Park.

Upcoming School Committee meetings will be held on Wednesday, May 6 and Wednesday, June 10 at the Coddington Building at 7:00 pm, and on Wednesday, May 20 at Central Middle School at 7:00 pm.
