At the Monday, February 23 Policy Subcommittee meeting, the Quincy School Committee voted unanimously to request a waiver for the 180-day school year requirement from Commissioner of Education Mitchell Chester. The letter, requesting a waiver for the three days that were declared state of emergency days by Governor Baker, was hand-delivered to Commissioner Chester at the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) offices in Malden on Wednesday, February 25. Also at the Policy Subcommittee meeting, several options for revising this year and next year’s school calendars were reviewed. An online survey will be posted on Wednesday, February 25 to solicit input from parents, students, staff, and community members on these options. A Public Hearing is scheduled for Monday, March 2 at 6:00 pm at the Coddington Building on the school year calendar issue.
