The event features projects from grades 9-12 and span fields of biology, chemistry, environmental science, physics, and engineering as students work individually or as a team to investigate topics such as heart rates, solar cells, robotics, and innovative ways to protect the environment. Project scores are tallied and weighting based on scientific approach, creativity, understanding, and presentation.
The in depth projects help Quincy High School students build career and life skills for success in 21st century careers, such as critical and creative thinking, communication, teamwork, and ethical decision-making. Students work one-on-one with teachers and professionals year round to follow their natural curiosity and explore “real world” science and engineering problems.
Much of the science fair’s success is due to the overwhelming support from our community with over 75 volunteers from science and technology fields donating their time to assist in STEM Fair operations and project judging. Each year Quincy High School shows a great diversity of projects and the student’s enthusiasm carries the evening as they get to celebrate their accomplishments with the community.
