Massachusetts Family Literacy Month

books,entertainment,families,granddaughters,grandfathers,kids,storybooks,reading,peopleThe Massachusetts Family Literacy Coalition, in collaboration with the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), has designated November as Massachusetts Family Literacy Month.  The Family Literacy Coalition promotes family engagement as it is a strong predictor of children’s reading and academic success.  Family literacy programs help parents improve their literacy skills and the literacy skills of their children.  Parents are often said to be their children’s first and most influential teachers. Family literacy seeks to make sure all parents are successful in this role for the benefit of families, schools, and communities.
