The City of Quincy has entered into a partnership with SolarCity to install solar arrays on city buildings. SolarCity is the largest solar entity on the United States, with more than 30,000 buildings in 14 states. SolarCity’s contract with the city requires no installation costs or investment; National Grid will purchase the energy produced at a contracted rate under the purchase power agreement (PPA).
Solar array installation is currently underway at twelve Quincy Public Schools; the Della Chiesa Early Childhood Center, Wollaston (pictured here), and Clifford Marshall are close to completion. Installation takes 4-6 weeks per site and SolarCity and their subcontractors work closely with the principals and custodial staff at each school to develop an installation plan for that site. By the end of 2014, over twenty schools and city buildings are scheduled to be online. In addition to managing the energy savings for the City of Quincy, SolarCity will collaborate on educational opportunities for Quincy Public Schools students across all grades.
