Quincy Public Schools will be participating in the PARCC Field Tests this Spring in twelve (12) schools that were randomly selected.  Classrooms of students in grades 3 – 11 at PARCC Field Test schools were also randomly selected to participate.

PARCC is a new student assessment system designed to assess the Common Core Standards in a comprehensive way through computerized and paper and pencil tests.  Two different PARCC Field Tests are scheduled: the PARCC Performance Based Assessment and the PARCC End-of-Year Assessment. The PARCC Field Tests are being administered so that the test designers can review the quality of the items.  The Spring 2014 Field Tests will provide Quincy students and educators with the opportunity to experience the new features built into next-generation assessments.

Students selected to participate in the PARCC Field Test will still be required to take the MCAS test.  These students, their school and their parents/guardians will receive MCAS results.   No PARCC test results will be made available.

At a staff meeting this afternoon, Central Middle School Principal Jennifer Fay-Beers will announce to the school’s staff that she has accepted the position of Assistant Superintendent of the Braintree Public Schools, effective July 1, 2014.  Just prior to the staff meeting, Principal Fay-Beers will send out an Instant Alert to all Central Middle School families informing them of this news.

Over the course of the spring, Principal Fay-Beers and Assistant Principal Rick DeCristofaro will work together to support the staff and students as they focus on meeting academic goals, host the first Science Fair and school play in the new building, and conclude the school year by celebrating the class of 2014 as they move on to begin their high school careers.

Please see below for the text of Principal Fay-Beers’ message to Central Middle School families:

Dear Central Families,

This year marks my twenty-first year as an educator in the Quincy Public Schools.  As a principal, parent, and former student, I am immensely proud of our school system.  Therefore, it is bittersweet that I share the news that I have accepted the position of Assistant Superintendent of Braintree Public Schools, effective July 1.

For the remainder of the school year, Central Middle School will continue to be my top priority.  I look forward to working with our amazing team of educators and families at Central as we finish out our first year in the new school.

It is my honor and privilege to serve the families of Quincy.  I appreciate the support and guidance I have received throughout my career from colleagues, families, the Superintendent and his leadership team, Mayor Koch, and the School Committee.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Fay-Beers
