It is amazing how time flies when you’re having fun. With Quincy Community Planting, Snug Harbor Summer School, STEM Summer, Summer Institute, and SWELL Academy completed and Summer School and Bridge to Reading ending by August 2nd we are on the final stretch of Summer Scene 2013. Beginning Monday, August 5th the remaining Developmental Learning Centers and YouthWorks programs will continue to run through the week of August 12th. Beginning on the first of July, students from the STEM Summer program have been taking a hands-on approach to further their knowledge in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math fields. On Friday, July 12th, students from the SWELL Academy summer initiative presented their topics. Through the use of in class and field trip research students were given the task of observing, comparing, contrasting, and classifying groups. Conclusions were then drawn based on the findings and covered a range of topics from geology and plant life to marine life. The students did a fantastic job presenting all the information that they worked so diligently to acquire. While Quincy Community Planting, Snug Harbor Summer School, STEM Summer, Summer YouthWorks, and SWELL Academy complete their second week, and the Developmental Learning Centers, Summer School (Middle and High School), and Bridge to Reading are finishing their first week, it is a great pleasure to say that Quincy Public Schools Summer Scene 2013 is successfully off and running. The only program yet to begin is Summer Institute. Available for students in grades Pre-K to 5, the program will start on Monday, July 15th at Beechwood Knoll from 9AM to 12PM. Students who haven’t yet may register at Beechwood Knoll during the start day. Summer Institute offers a variety of fun and enriching programs such as The ABC’s of Kindergarten, Krafty Kids, LEGO Robotics, and Windows Wizards. Lastly, it is important to point out that ownership of such an exceptional start can be shared by the administrators, facilitators, teachers, community members, parents/guardians, and most importantly the students.
