Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we prepare to return to school, I wanted to acknowledge the tragic events of last week that have affected all of us in many ways. Whether you have personal knowledge of a victim, family members or friends who are first responders or live in the neighborhoods involved, we are all engaged in this still-unfolding drama and its after-effects.
During the last week, you may have struggled to make sense of these events and how to communicate with your own children about them. Helpful information for assisting students and families to process last week’s events can be found in the resources from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and the National Association of School Psychologists that are listed below.
- Managing Your Stress: Tips for Survivors of a Traumatic Event
- Helping Children and Youth Cope After a Disaster: A Guide for Parents, Caregivers, and Teachers
Please know that the many dedicated Quincy Public Schools teachers, support staff, and administrators are focused on providing your children with the highest level of caring and supportive learning environments. If your family would benefit from further assistance, please contact your school’s principal, Director of Student Support Services Maura Papile at 617.984.8891, or my office at 617.984.8700.
