At last night’s Citywide Parents’ Council Meeting, Bay State Textiles distributed checks to each of the Quincy Public Schools’ PTOs. Out of the pool of $10,000, each school received a one-time payment of $400 plus additional funds based on the tonnage collected in the bin found at each school. Almost 45,000 tons of textiles were collected in the first three months of the program, removing recyclable materials from the waste stream and saving the taxpayers money on waste removal costs. This textile recycling program is a collaboration between the Department of Public Works, the Quincy Public Schools, and Bay State Textiles and donations of any fabrics, including clothing, shoes, stuffed animals, bedding, drapery, and towels in any condition are accepted.
