The Department of Public Works is offering grant money to local schools, civic organizations and Quincy residents to participate in National Public Works Week Community Beautification Projects. Chosen projects will be awarded up to $500 in grant money gift cards redeemable at local retailers to complete the proposed project. Volunteer labor must be performed by the group/applicant.
National Public Works week provides Public Works Departments with the opportunity to showcase their services. Many people are not aware of the critical services provided by the DPW. The Quincy DPW is a triad of Highway, Water/Sewer, and Waste Management. The workforce is made up of approximately 100 men and women who keep traffic flowing, water/sewer running and waste collected on a daily basis for over 90,000 residents.
The deadline for the grant application is March 1, 2012. Written proposals and photos should be sent to DPW Commissioner Daniel G. Raymondi, 55 Sea St., Quincy, MA 01269. Applications are available at the DPW or you can download by clicking here.
The proposed projects will be evaluated and applicants will be notified in April of their award for the project to be completed by Cleaner Greener Day Saturday, May 5, 2012. In addition, prize money will be awarded to first, second and third place winners to be used for future projects. For more information call 617-376-1957.
